Nicole Lisa brings her passion for human rights and her many years of experience at non profit organizations to her work as a Spanish to English translator and consultant. As a translator and editor, she works with many types of documents, from correspondence and monitoring tools, to bylaws and book-length reports, to render them into language that reads as if the organization had written it themselves. As a web manager, she acts as a liaison between non profit and web design team to ensure the final product reflects expectations and ensures that the site is continually updated and maintained.
Nicole has been working with non profits since 1997 and since 2002 as a consultant. She works with many leaders in the field, including International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region, Doctors Without Borders and UNIFEM. She also works with small, local non profits and unions, including the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY and UNITE HERE.
Prior to founding her own business, Nicole was the Director of Programs at Legal Information for Families Today, the Communications Assistant at the Center for Reproductive Rights and a Victim/Witness Advocate at the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
In 2007, she received a Certificate in Translation from New York University. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1997 with a BA in Women’s Studies, with a specialization in Women and Race in the Americas, and a minor in Spanish. During college she spent the first half of junior year at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey, Mexico and the second divided between the Institute for Central American Development Studies in San José, Costa Rica and working as an intern with AMLAE Estelí and the Red de Mujeres contra la Violencia Dómestica de Condega in Nicaragua.
She is the Secretary for the New York Circle of Translators and a member of the American Translators Association.
She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, with her Chilean rock star husband. She grew up in Teaneck, NJ.
